Companies and suppliers are now required to review their supply chains for sustainable and responsible practices. At the center of this are the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) and the EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDDD / CS3D). High fines are threatened in the event of violations. We provide you with an overview of the two laws and what you need to consider.
The LkSG, which came into force in 2023, obliges companies with 1,000 or more employees and a registered office in Germany to fulfill due diligence obligations along the upstream supply chain. The CSDDD, which was adopted in 2024, expands the legislation at the European level and covers the entire supply chain, both upstream and downstream. EU member states are required to transpose the CSDDD into national law within two years of its entry into force. Suppliers must also prepare to meet strict requirements and adapt their processes and standards to remain recognized as business partners.
